From 'AI Force' to SIF: How We Got Here
The Super Intelligence Force didn’t come out of nowhere. Its origin is a Truth Social post from September 19, 2026.
September 19: the “AI Force” post
Trump wrote that he was forming an “AI Force,” explicitly comparing it to the Space Force he created in his first term: “just like I did with the Space Force.” He also said he would soon appoint an AI czar — a role previously held by David Sacks, who had stepped down earlier in the year.
Key lines from the announcement:
- The administration would not “hinder or choke” the AI industry, but “treasure, help and guard it”
- Existing criminal and civil justice systems would handle “bad behavior”
- AI is “the next Industrial Revolution,” potentially 25% of U.S. GDP
Trump also mused that the term “artificial intelligence” was inelegant, floating alternatives like “advanced intelligence” or “super intelligence” — and polled the public on the best name.
The reaction: confusion
Tech industry figures told reporters they had no idea what the “AI Force” would do, who would staff it, or how it would operate. OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta and Nvidia all declined to comment. One industry source speculated it could put the Pentagon in the driver’s seat rather than civilian regulators.
October 4: “AI Force” becomes the Super Intelligence Force
Two weeks later, the concept got a formal name, a leadership team, and a 120-day mandate. “Super intelligence” — the term Trump had floated as a rebrand — became the official banner.
What hasn’t changed: the light-touch regulatory philosophy, the China-competition framing, and the open question of what the force will concretely do beyond coordinating.
